SERVICE DESCRIPTION:Provides Local, State and National response team for disasters composed of doctors, mental health professionals, nurses, physician assistants, paramedics, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, EMT's and non-medical support personnel such as communication/technology specialists, security, logistics, safety health specialists and administration. Team is a component of the National Disaster Medical System (NDMS).
Note: The NDMS is a federally coordinated system that augments the nation's medical response capability. NDMS supplements an integrated National medical response capability for assisting State and local authorities in dealing with the medical impacts of major peacetime disasters and provides support to the military and the Department of Veterans Affairs medical systems in caring for casualties evacuated back to the US from overseas armed conventional conflicts.
SERVICE HOURS:On call one month a quarter. Monthly training and team meeting.

INTAKE:Activated through a Federal disaster declaration made by the State or local Emergency Operation Center offices.
ELIGIBILITY:Activated by the Federal Government in support of State or local Emergency Operation Center offices.
